National Parks
As an artist-in-residence for Zion National Park in Utah, I spent a month in a beautiful cabin in Zion Canyon composing new music in many genres. An interview about the experience is on Nell Shaw Cohen's Landscape Music site, and through this experience, I also became part of the Landscape Music Composers Network.
One of the many highlights of the residency was spending 3 days with a Salt Lake City PBS crew, hiking, performing, and rappelling with my violin. The results were incorporated into the Zion National Park piece of the Utah Bucket List, above.
As a part of the Centennial of the National Parks, I was included in this National Park Service video on the Artist Experience in the Parks.
I was able to continue this journey as an artist-in-residence for Acadia National Park in Maine based in 3 different locations: Isle au Haut, Schoodic Penninsula, and a Rockefeller carriage road gatehouse. This residency also took place during two very different seasons of the year. One of the pieces I created during this time can be found in the Artist-in-Residence Catalog and can be heard at Acadia’s new Visitor Center.
